I married her because she’s my favorite person EVAH!! But, this “Golden Girls” scene is especially relevant today.
Deliver doughnuts to friends visiting NYC at their hotel room on a Monday morning. Annie Nazarian is the most thoughtful person ever (and she knew not to have hotel staff call up to the room too early).
I note this event because she and I celebrate a 20 year friendship this year and I’m the better for it.
(By way of explanation, they are doughnuts from Dough, and they are blood orange, dulce de leche, and poppyseed. The missing doughnut, by the way, was the blood orange one Annie rightfully kept for herself.)
I’m unapologetically a Glee fan for numbers like this.
This was my reaction to yesterday’s papal announcement.
My mother asked for the “Corned beef and garbage” at the Norm’s diner.
She must have seen my left eyebrow rise ever so slightly, because she follow up her request by asking “Comó se dice ‘repollo’ en íngles?”
“Se dice ‘cabbage’.” I answered.
“Lo bueno es que se preguntar,” she smiled.
That is the number of days since I’ve had a Diet Coke. It had become my drink of choice at all hours of the day and for all occasions, but in light of that NYT article I recently referenced, I figured it best for me and the brown fizz in the shiny can to part ways for a while.
I don’t feel better or worse. I don’t really miss it or know how long I’ll stay away.
For now, just seems enough to keep count of the days.
